On the Farm

March 23, 2009

This weekend, we took a trip to our town’s organic farm to check out the animals.  It’s a convenient, free way to get the kids outside, learning about animals, without traveling too far, or spending too much.  It was actually a good opportunity for me to try out my relatively new Nikon D60.

goatncofFirst, we came across this overly friendly goat, who actually pulled himself up above the fence to say hello.  He also followed us, from his fence, all the way to our car.  I think he wanted to come home with us!  My kids loved seeing him so close to us, although I have to admit, this was a bit too close!

dsc_0057Bunnies!  This is just a small sampling of the number of bunnies that were at the farm.  Being so close to Easter, these bunnies are, of course, for sale.  Thankfully, my kids don’t read yet, so they didn’t realize we could take one home for just $15.

dsc_0068This is the chicken pen.  Notice how far from the pen I actually am while taking the photo.  Last time I went near this pen, I swore off eggs for two months.  I don’t think it affected my children at all however.  This time, I chose to stay my distance, and take a photo of the pen from afar.

dsc_0064I love this photo!  It’s an old barn from 1815.  This photo feels so quintessential New England.  This area of the farm is actually pretty empty, but I’m surprised this historic building is actually accessible to all visitors.  My kids were curious about it, but didn’t go near it.

catncofFinally, the barn cat!  She (or he) is always hanging around the barn, making sure that everyone is safe.  The barn always holds the farms newest residents – today there was a pig with her newborn piglets.  So adorable!  Out of respect for them, since they were all sleeping, I didn’t take a photo.
