Getting Social Media with Mom Bloggers Right: The Stouffers Let’s Fix Dinner Event

May 1, 2009

This week, I attended the Let’s Fix Dinner blogger outreach event sponsored by Stouffers, and before I blog all about the things I learned and the conversations we had, I just had to give full credit to Stouffers and Publicis PR for the amazing event.

I’ve attended loads of planned events in the past, such as mom blogger outreach events, social media conferences, and corporate events.  Getting it exactly right can be challenging.  After all, the world of mom bloggers and social media (including blogger outreach) is often brand new, and one misstep is typically broadcast over the internet in just a few minutes.  So when a company gets it 100% right, it’s a very rare event, but amazingly special.

The Let’s Fix Dinner event was the best organized, coordinated, and planned out event I’ve attended.  From start to finish, every small detail was planned for, and as an invited blogger, I felt valued and important.  Right at the beginning, the e-mail invitations – which were personalized, detailed, and friendly, to the welcome package – which was colorful, informative, and generous, here are just a few things that made the event perfect:

  • Lots of advance notice – most of us have to be concerned about childcare, so having plenty of advance notice is essential, so we can coordinate with our family.
  • A welcome kit arrived one week in advance and contained a binder with flight details, as well as attendee bios, photos, and agenda (arrived one week in advance).  At that time, we also found out that Stouffers would be delivering a warm, healthy meal to our family while we were away – genius!
  • Upon arrival, the hotel room contained a gift basket, a packing peanut filled box (for shipping goodies home), and details about our departure to the airport, as well as another copy of the agenda, and information on how we could access the internet while on site at Stouffers.
  • Once at Stouffers, the conference room had plenty of power outlets, and IT experts were available in the room to help us connect to the internet.
  • All of our guest speakers, who were wonderful, were in attendance for the entire event.  This made the conversations even more robust, as we had so many different opinions and experiences represented.
  • A fabulous cross-section of speakers who were all passionate about the Let’s Fix Dinner topic, and highly informative and engaging.
  • Stouffers was incredibly generous with the gifts to us – they clearly valued our time and opinions!
  • The agenda was extremely well-timed and planned – we didn’t go over in any sessions, and there were even tweet and blog breaks built in!
  • The food, oh my, the food.  I’ve never eaten so many great things all in the same day!

Huge, huge props to Stouffers, Publicis PR, and particularly Simon Bowers at Publicis, for all of their hard work and planning.  I’d be honored to work with any of them in the future!

So glad to hear that you were treated well. Speaking as a last minute drop-out to this event, it’s nice to hear that Publicis and Stouffer’s “got it” right! I’d like to add one more bullet to your list. My calendar fell apart and gave Publicis late notice that I wouldn’t be able to attend. They were very understanding and supportive of my decision. Kudos to Publicis and Stouffer’s, indeed. Welcome home, Momma!
