Anyone who is friends with me on Facebook is probably already sick of hearing about my vacation, as I was constantly updating what I was doing and posting photos from my iPhone throughout the day.
Last Sunday, my family left for Walt Disney World, our third year in a row that we went during the first full week of May. I prefer to go at that time, because it’s after the spring break rush, but before the kids are out of school. Because my kids aren’t in school yet, we have the flexibility of going at just about anytime.
This year, we stayed at the Polynesian – my top pick for a resort for those who are looking for convenience. Since it’s located adjacent to the Ticket and Transportation Center, we usually walked right to the TTC to take the bus to Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, and could take a monorail direct to Epcot or the Magic Kingdom. The food at the Polynesian is great too, from the character breakfast at ‘Ohana to Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe, to dinner at ‘Ohana and Dole Whips at Capt Cooks.
Here were the highlights of our trip:
- My daughter finally being tall enough to ride Soarin’. She was so excited throughout the ride, and made I ride it with her three times
- My son’s interactions with the characters. He was afraid of them last year, but this year he was excited to see them and hugged almost all of them
- Going on a whole bunch of rides that I enjoy, like Expedition Everest, the Rock n Roller coaster, Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain
- Getting the chance to see the Grand Suite at the Grand Floridian. Leanne took a video of it – it’s one of the largest and most luxurious suites on Disney property
- The nice weather – 90 degrees and dry every single day
- Shopping! I had a great time visiting some of the new shops at Downtown Disney, including TrenD and the Hanes Create a Tee shop!
Now, it’s back to reality, and I realize that I have only four months to train for the Expedition Everest 5K!
