I RAN TWO MILES WITHOUT STOPPING!!!
But let me back up and tell you the story.
After posting my second Jodi + Running: Take 2 story, I had a variety of reactions. My sorority sister Polina commented that I should consider trying the Couch to 5K program. The truth is, I had considered that a while ago, but realized I needed a stopwatch to keep track of the individual minutes (otherwise, I’d end up just constantly checking my watch instead of running).
So, my husband, who thinks I’m using this running thing to just buy lots of new stuff, dissuaded me from buying a nice stopwatch. So I bought a cheap little thing at Target. After I got it home and out of the package, I realized it didn’t come with directions. After poking and prodding the thing for 5 minutes, I gave up. Except it won’t stop beeping. It randomly beeps every few minutes and is LOUD. It’s been 3 months and the stopwatch is now buried in our garage. Beeping.
Back to my running…. on Thursday night, after I posted the latest running post, my husband read it and then told me I wasn’t trying hard enough. Me?? Not trying hard enough??
So Sunday morning, I headed out, intent on “trying hard enough” and finishing a full 2 miles. It was a nice, cool, morning, perfect for a run. I put on a wicking shirt and a new non-chafing running skirt from Lululemon.
I was intent on finishing, and so I wouldn’t let myself stop. Not when my legs got tired. Not when I got out of breath. Not when I saw a dead bunny on the sidewalk in front of me (yuck!).
As I rounded the corner to head back toward my house, I knew I had a few small hills to run up. And, when I made it past them, I knew I’d do it.
It wasn’t until I got to my front door that I realized two things.
One – 2 miles killed, I still have to do 3.1 miles.
Two – by finishing, I actually proved my husband right, not wrong. I wasn’t trying hard enough.

2 miles Jodi?!?! Good for you! Guess I must not be trying hard enough either — but I still can’t even fathom running 1 mile, let alone 2…OR 3!!!
