Before the Race - Notice the Random Sunburn Circle on my Neck

Before the Race - Notice the Random Sunburn Circle on my Neck

Here I am, ready to run the 5K, conquer the obstacle course, and complete the scavenger hunt.  While I’ve been training for what seems like forever, I don’t think I trained properly.  For example, I trained in the AM, in cool weather, before breakfast.  But the race?  Was at 8:05pm, after visiting Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival (I avoided alcohol, but did eat my way around the World), after standing in the DAK parking lot for 4 hours, after filming a video, after doing a full-on Moms Panel dance to I Gotta Feeling (in front of the cameras), and, oh, I almost forgot, in the POURING rain.

After the race started, the moms split into natural groups – the runners (Tanya, Whitney, Jen, Joanne, Doug, Erin, Karen), the run/walkers (me & Diane C), and the walkers (everyone else).  Twice, Diane and I had to go back and rerun a few steps for the camera.  We were hot.  So when the rain started, at first it was welcome.  Then it DOWNPOURED.  For over an hour.  The obstacle course was almost impossible to navigate – at one point I almost lost my contact lens.

The scavenger hunt would have been fun, if it wasn’t pouring so much.  We couldn’t even write the answers in our book, but by the time we finished, they weren’t even checking them.

Diane and I had a goal of finishing the 5K in 40 minutes, and I think we were a few minutes short of our goal.  But, we did waste a few minutes re-filming, and the rain at the end slowed us down.  I think I want to do another 5K to see what I really can do.

Oh, and the chaffing.  Ouch.  I have a long rug-burn type wound on my leg, so I’ll definitely be wearing something more practical next time.

Yes, there will be a next time!

Great job! That must have been difficult. It was fun to follow your tweets (as well as the other moms) during your reunion weekend. Glad it was a success!

Now that it’s over does that mean we can go out and over-eat together? ;) xo

That was quite a downpour!!! We were eating at Crystal Palace and came out to find the rain…and there was literally a puddle in my daughter’s stroller!!! Glad you guys had fun!
