So, when I got my upgraded 3GS iPhone, one of the enhancements was the built-in Nike + receiver, so a separate receiver is no longer needed. Of course, that didn’t mean much to me, because I wasn’t a runner, and never even thought I’d make it through my first 5k. But when I went all crazy and actually agreed to run the Princess 1/2 marathon next year, I realized I’d need to track it somehow.
I went to the Apple Store, where yes, some of the staff know me personally. I bought the sensor for my new Nike running shoes (I did buy a new pair of shoes after the EE5K, and the Nikes were recommended to me by the sales person) and found it so easy to set up. Then, I ran 5K, calibrated it, set up that fancy new widget on my sidebar (with my own little cartoon character), and was on my way.
The next day, I set out to run again, but somehow a slow song came on right away. So, I slowed down, stopped the current “run” and changed the music. The I started running again. But, the receiver couldn’t find the sensor. No matter what I did – stomp around, walk, jump up and down, run, stomp again, jump again (yes, all in my front yard), it didn’t work. So I did what any self-respecting runner would do. I went in the house, took a shower, and returned it to the Apple Store. (and then went running later in the day).
The new sensor is working so far – fingers crossed.
Now that I’m tracking my runs, I decided to move from 3.5 miles to 4 miles. Which I can do with some recovery walking in between. But then, this dear friend of mine decided we should do a 10K (jog/walk – just to try it out), and I agreed.
So, next week? I’ll be run/walking the Human Race 10K.
