Standing Up For Myself as a Blogger

November 8, 2010

Today I wrote an email that I should have written months ago.

This has been eating at me forever.

A popular blog network disrespected my time and my worth, and I let it happen.

This is the email I sent:

“While I’m certain this isn’t your fault at all, I have to express my incredible frustration in the way I was treated in this situation.

You asked for a blog post with quick turnaround time.  I wrote it.
You asked to meet on the phone, so I could revise the post.  I did both.
You asked me to fax over an agreement.  I did.
You told me I’d be talking to (insert name of popular personal finance expert).  I waited.
And waited.
And waited.

Then I heard that you were approaching bloggers to contribute to the site.

Now I see bloggers are contributing.  But I was left with no resolution.  No respect for my time at all.

I’m leaving the (redacted) network today.  While there’s little respect for my time with (redacted), other blog networks respect my time.”
I feel better.

Now don’t you feel better! A little venting goes a long way. Good for you!

You have to stand up for yourself, because no one else will.

Good for you for standing up for yourself! I’m sorry you had to go through it. Such an important yet painful lesson to learn.
